The island of manhattan was evacuated on Saturday due to hurricane sandy. once the evacuation was over, anyone else on the island is now stuck there until further notice because the bridges were all raised. do you think this is fair to the people trying to get off the island even though they already had a 72 hour notice to evacuate. explain
I think that it's sad that people are stuck on the island. I'm assuming the reason they stayed was probably because they thought the storm wouldn't be as damaging as they thought. Or, what scares me most, is if someone was physically incapable of leaving, like if they were old or handicapped. Hopefully the storm ends soon because the amount of time it will take to recover will be a while.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the New York Times, already at least 26 people have died due to the storm. Hopefully the efforts to rebuild are effective and bring together the country as a whole.
What else I think may be an interesting outcome could be the reactions of the presidential canidates. Will they use this to their advantage to help win over voters? Or continue on with their original plans. Now may be a good time to utilize destruction to create community.

I first off want to note that my heart and my prayers goes out to all the families that were effected by hurricane Sandy. It honestly breaks my heart that one natural disaster can cause so much harm to cities in the United States. What amazed me the most was the medical staff at the hospital in New York. The staff members from this hospital along with many volunteers made it their priority and mission to get every single patient ( no matter how big or how small) out of the hospital safely and quickly. This may sound like an easy task but it wasn’t, mainly what made this task so difficult was that the elevators were out of order since the hospital was out of power. As a result many patients were carried down nine flights of stairs yes you read that right nine. If this doesn’t amaze you, what you read next will definitely. Nurses made it their mission to make sure that the nicu babies received oxygen and since there were no machines to give the babies oxygen nurses had to manually pump oxygen into the nicu babies lungs. In my mind the true heroes of hurricane sandy were the nurses that saved little innocent babies lives.
