Does violence in the media carry over to people's daily lives?

  1. Males are introduced to violence at a young age, the way in which they are introduced is through video games. Games such as call of duty, modern warfare, and halo are all video games centered around shooting people or buildings etc. While they say things are good in moderation, I don’t exactly find a boy in elementary school sitting in front of a tv screen for hours on end shooting people a good thing. As a result I feel like if this individual were put in a dangerous situation their initial way to react would be violence. I don’t think this happens daily but I would say that in situations kids that are brainwashed by killing people in video games would carry this act over to their “real” lives. I feel that video games would cause a person to be violent more than a violent movie because in video games people are given choices and in a movie you don’t make the decisions the movie director does.

  2. Although in todays media, violence plays a major role, I dont feel that it carries into peoples daily lives. As young children, of course boys are going to rough house, but it is simply because they're boys and thats how they express being playful. In my opinion, that is as far as it goes. As children go up, most of them learn the difference between right and wrong and are clear that cutting peoples heads off, is crazy and wrong. This doesn't go for everyone, becuase there are some people that are influenced by violence in the media and act upon it, but in my opinion I feel that most sane people play violent video games and watch violent tv shows because they cant act upon those things in real life and as a source of entertainment.

  4. I dont agree that violence in the media carries over to people’s daily lives but there are exceptions. We are surrounded by media all of our lives. Media exposes us to all kinds of things from a young age, including violence. Violence in the media is most commonly found in action films, horror films, and video games for entertainment purposes only. If the violence in the media carried over into everyone’s daily lives we would be in a lot of trouble. Like I said there are exceptions. Too much of anything can be harmful especially when it comes to violence. An individual who gets obsessed with horror flicks might get desires to act out what they see behind the TV screen. Movies and video games obviously aren’t reality but they portray very realistic ideas and situations us. Violence in the media could influence an individual, but it's not very likely.

This is related link that talks about specific situations where violence from the media carried over into individuals daily lives.
