Does anyone think there is a bias towards seniors from teachers? Do you think they push us harder because they believe there is a stereotype for our grade? Like that we are automatically lazy? Have you noticed any changes this year compared to our previous years in high school?
Laura I like your question, because that has also ran across my mind as well. In my opinion I think that teachers do expect seniors to be lazy. I haven't noticed a change in the teachers as much as I have noticed a change in myself.
ReplyDeleteI feel that I am actually more focused and stressed than I have been in previous years. I think my stress is coming from juggling college essays, sports and things that I have to do at home. In the back of my mind I know that I have to keep a good gpa, so in the events of being accepted into a school or wait listed, they wont take it away from me. I hope that things will settle down during second trimester. As far as teachers go, I haven't treated differently but I do think that they assume that the majority of seniors are lazy.
I think that teachers sometimes enter the school year predicting that their senior classes or classes with a majority of seniors will automatically be the laziest. With this mindset, I think that they tend to push us harder to really enforce that we are still in school even though we are seniors. However, I think the problem with senior classes isn't so much that we are lazy, it's that we have all become better friends. Most of the people in my classes I have gone to school with for many years so I know them well. So I think what might be annoying to teachers is that we talk more which they may think is us being lazy, when it is really because we are more comfortable with each other. I also think that a lot of the times by senior year, kids have figured out what they can get away with; what homework they can put half as much effort into and still get a good grade for. But, it is also possible that I just think this way because I am a senior and I have a lot on my plate just because of that so it might seem like school is becoming harder than it is.
ReplyDeleteI’ve noticed that the teachers are a little stricter on the seniors, even more than last year. Instead of having more privileges or the teachers letting you slack off a bit, you’re expected to do be a role model for underclassmen as the perfect high school student. Even more than that, I believe teachers are preparing you for the real world. Making you understand play times over, you’re an adult and what you do will affect your life now more than ever. The real world is not show you how to live in it. If you want an education GO GET IT. Teachers aren’t going to teach you everything so you better get as much as you can here so you can find the rest out there by yourself.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t noticed a biased towards the class of 2013 from my teachers, but that could just be me and the classes that I’m, in. I feel more pressure from my counselor than from my teachers. During the first week of school I attended the senior meeting for students and parents which was presented by our assigned counselor. During this meeting my counselor , Mrs. Fugedi discussed the importance of striving to do our personnel best this year and not to slack off. During this meeting she also told us to turn to a page in the packet that had letters from MSU and U of M that were real letters that students received that change their acceptance to rejected. This happened because when students applied they had a good gpa and act score, but during their freshman year they didn’t maintain those grades and failed to meet the universities requirements for admission. After reading those letters it really motivated me to develop a strong work ethic early in the school year so I don’t develop a common and contagious disease known as senioritis which could be defined as inflammation of a senior. From what I’ve heard from Groves alumni is that this disease can be very contagious especially during third trimester. My goal is to work hard this year in all of my classes and not develop senioritis. Has anyone felt the symptoms of senioritis this early in the year yet?
